Max Laeuger Large Art Nouveau Tile

$ 698.00
This large tile was made by Max Laeuger (1864-1952) in Germany at the turn of the 20th Century. The tile measures nearly 8 inches square and the surface is decorated with slip in an impasto and squeezebag technique. A bold design in green might represent the leaves of a staghorn fern. The back has old labels and an applied hanger, as well as impressed mark for Tonwerk Kandern. In 1898 the "Tonwerke Kandern Art Pottery" was founded under the direction of Max Laeuger, which celebrated its first great success at the World Exhibition in 1900 in Paris.The tile remains in excellent condition.
