Solimene Vietri
Italian Pottery Dish with Sailboats and Anchors by Solimene Vietri
$ 42.50
A really nice piece of vintage Italian tableware. Not as flat as a plate, but with a raised rim described as a soup bowl in its catalogs, it measures 8 1/4" diameter and 1 1/4" tall. Three ships and three anchors decorate the wide molded rim, which lowers onto circular bands of color against a white base. All hand painted, the decor is quite pleasing. The condition is excellent.
Solimene Vietri has been producing these designs since after WWII. The ships seem to have been discontinued. The painting is of better quality than what is offered today. I suspect this is 1980-90's vintage, old enough to show quality yet new enough to be able to eat safely off the surface. Imagine being served a nice seafood stew in one of these bowls.
