French Encaustic Waterlily Tile Boch Freres
A colorful encaustic tile of a waterlily made by Boch Freres in the Northern French town of Maubeuge. Part of a continuing border, encaustic tiles like these are make for heavy traffic. The color of the design goes deep into the tile body and it is in a dead matte glaze finish. This allows for considerable use and wear. The tile measures 5 3/4" square and 3/4" thick. The back has an impressed signature. Allover very good condition with a few scattered flakes around the perimeter.
The thick, heavy, and dense nature makes this perfect for a trivet, an accent outdoors or in a floor or in a fireplace hearth.
