DeSimone Pottery Large Tile Kite Boy

$ 235.00
An early (1960's) tile by Giovanni DeSimone (1930-1991) of a boy flying a kite. It measures 10 1/4" square and made from a red faience clay in a hand formed slab. Intricate detailed design in multicolored glazes makes this a special piece. The back has incised holes into the clay and a wire for hanging. Excellent condition with no chips cracks or repairs.

My friend Norman Karlson, author of American Art Tiles and founder of Country Floors worked directly with DeSimone, often visiting the factory in Sicily. He told me that in these early years only Giovanni DeSimone was allowed to sign his name onto the front of a piece. All other artists in the factory had to either sign the name DeSimone on the side or back.
