Chicago Crucible Art Pottery Verdigris Matte Green Frog Spoon Warmer

$ 325.00
This charming green frog was made at the Chicago Crucible Company 1917-1919 after its acquisition by Northwestern Terra Cotta. It is covered in a wonderful smokey verdigris green matte glaze. Its large size, 4 3/4" tall, 5 1/2" deep and 6" across and with its mouth wide open it would have been ready to hold some hot water to keep your serving spoon warm. Apparently people that lived in cold drafty houses loved warm spoons. He also would have been a nifty tabletop companion. Now it can hold your keys or spare change, your credit cards or your stash.

The base is marked "The Chicago Crucible Co." I suspect some tips of some toes have been touched up. This has been in my collection for about 20 years after buying it at a Rago auction.
