Lion Architectural Tile Block Beaux Arts Era

$ 795.00
This antique architectural tile block has a finely detailed bas relief rendering of an adult male lion. The face of the tile is beveled back to allow for a sculpted effect and is glazed in a light green. The lion and frame  are glazed in white. The finish of the surface is vitreous and durable. It measures  4" tall, 9 1/4" wide and 1" thick. The left edge still has its grout attached and the tile is remains in excellent condition with a few blemishes from its removal. Purportedly this tile came from a Beaux Arts era train station. The back is marked with "HD.119. 1". There have been a few attributions to these tiles, Teco, Rookwood, Grueby, and others, but in my opinion Hartford Faience is a better possibility.

Its classical and masculine design makes this a good decor item for a den or office. Its durable construction lets it be displayed or installed outside.
