Vintage Malkin Johnson Tiles When I saw these antique tiles I bought every one that was available, over 5 cases. I also bought all the complimenting tiles that were available, a design with a circle, and smooth, hammered surface design, all in the same glazes. The vintage tiles were made by the Malkin Johnson Tile Company of England. They have a date code on the back of being manufactured in 1970. The two big tiles companies of Malkin Edge and H & R Johnson merged in 1968 to form Malkin Johnson, giving each original business their due in it’s new name. The antique tiles you see on the left have a bold and dimensional undulating design with a hammered finish. It is covered with a glossy glaze called Green Bronze. I can see these Mid Century Modern tiles used in so many ways; an accent wall entering an Eichler California ranch, the wall of a shower or a tall fountain, or tiling the space above a plain Mid Century fireplace up to it’s cathedral ceiling. Coming from unused old stock, the vintage tiles are in like new condition, ready to be used in ways only limited by your imagination.
